A large context window is the difference between an assistant that has read your file and one that has read the beginning of it. Ask what changed between two clauses forty pages apart and you get an answer, because both clauses are still in front of it.
That is also why the upload limit is generous rather than grudging: the whole point is to give it everything, and a tool that charges you per attachment is training you to give it less.

What file types can I upload?
PDFs, Word documents, plain text and Markdown, CSV and JSON, source code, images in the usual formats, and video clips. If it is a document you work with, it is probably on the list.
Is there a limit on how many files I can upload?
No. There is no upload meter, no monthly allowance and no counter that stops you at a handful of documents a month.
How large can a single file be?
Up to 20 MB each. That covers most reports, contracts and papers comfortably.
Can it read a long PDF in one pass?
Yes. The context window is large enough to hold a long document whole, so you get answers about the actual file rather than about the first few pages of it.
Do I need an account to upload a document?
No. Uploading and asking questions works as a guest. Generating images is the one thing that needs a free account.
Are my documents used for training?
No. Nothing you upload is used to train a model and nothing is sold. Uploads follow the same rule as everything else you type.
