Comparison
A free ChatGPT alternative.
Without the meter.
Unlimited messages, unlimited uploads and free image generation, with nothing you type used for training. It scores above GPT-5.1 and Claude Opus 4.5 on the one test all of them report the same way, and it costs nothing.
Side by side.
The right-hand column is written in general terms on purpose. Paid assistants change their prices and their per-window allowances often, and a comparison page quoting last quarter's numbers is worse than one that does not pretend to.
Free, not lesser.
GPQA Diamond, graduate-level science, no tools. It is the one test these four report the same way, which is why it is the only one compared here. Published figures, August 2026.
The peer group is each vendor's previous flagship rather than its current one, and the other tests Aelius publishes are reported in different versions by the others, so they are not drawn as a comparison. The full set and where the numbers come from is on the home page.
The work that usually
gets rationed first.
The drafting, the reading, the explaining, the code review, the picture you wanted without opening a second tool. That is the work a free tier meters first, and it is exactly the work that is never metered here.
Questions about switching.
Is there a free alternative to ChatGPT with no message limits?
Yes. Aelius has no daily or monthly message cap and no credits to run out. A short rate limit exists to stop automated abuse and ordinary conversation does not reach it.
Do I have to pay to generate images?
No. Image generation is free and uncapped, with no watermark on what comes out. It needs a free account, which is the only requirement.
Is it as good as ChatGPT?
On GPQA Diamond, the graduate-level science test all the major models report the same way, Aelius scores 89.2 against 88.1 for GPT-5.1 and 87.0 for Claude Opus 4.5, on published figures from August 2026. It is an open-weights model, not a cut-down one.
Do I need an account to try it?
No. You can start a conversation as a guest with no email and no password. An account is needed only for image generation and for history across devices.
Is my data used for training?
No. Conversations are never used to train a model and are never sold. The model runs on hardware we own, so what you type is not forwarded to another AI company either.
How can it be free?
The model runs on hardware we own and operate, so there is no per-token bill from another company to pass on. What it costs us is electricity, which does not climb with every message the way an API invoice does.
Try it before you cancel anything.
No account, no card, and no way to accidentally start a trial. If it does not suit you, nothing has been spent.
